SDWC Anniversary Writing Competition

Calling writers from across the world!

To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Swansea & District Writers Circle (SDWC), we are awarding a cash prize of £200 to the best short story and poem on the theme of ‘Anniversary’ entered into our competition, which closes on 31 May 2024

The contest is open to all writers over 16 years of age, anywhere in the world, writing in English. You can submit up to three entries in total across the two categories. The winning entries, 2 runners up and highly commended entries in each category will be published in our Anniversary Anthology, to be released in November 2024. 

How to enter:

  • Read the Competition Rules using the button below.
  • Pay entry fee: Choose the number of entries from the drop down menu and pay your entry fee using PayPal or a credit/debit card.
  • Complete Entry Form:  Enter your details and payment details. Confirm that you agree to the rules and have paid the entry fee. 
  • Paste the title and text of each entry into the boxes provided on the entry form (up to a maximum of 3 entries in total). 
  • Do not include your name, address or any other identifying information when you paste your work into the entry form.
  • Submit entry form

Winning short story: £200
Winning poem: £200

Word limits:
Short stories: up to 2000 words
Poems: up to 48 lines

Theme: ‘Anniversary’

Deadline for entries: 31 May 2024

Winners notified: September 2024

Entry fees: £6 for 1 entry, £10 for 2 entries, £14 for 3 entries
